The 하다 Pattern
하다 is one of the most common verbs in Korean.
Its basic 해요-style form is 해요 . The same high-frequency pattern appears in many common verbs and adjectives ending in 하다 , such as 공부하다 → 공부해요 and 피곤하다 → 피곤해요 .
Why '해요'?
The stem 하- combines with -여요 to form 하여요 .
In everyday Korean, 하여요 usually contracts to 해요 . 하여요 is still possible, especially in more formal or deliberate styles, but 해요 is the common everyday form.
Expanding to Other Words
Many common Korean verbs and adjectives end in 하다 . Some are formed from a noun plus 하다 , such as 공부하다 .
