Emphasis & Limitation · don't, doesn't, isn't, aren't, not. Quick Usage: Place '안' directly before the verb or adjective you want to negate. For '하다' verbs, '안' goes between the noun and '하다'.
The expression 안 아요 (or more generally, 안 + verb/adjective) is one of the most common and direct ways to form a negative sentence in Korean. It functions as a short-form negation, indicating that an action is not performed or a state is not true. It is widely used in everyday conversation due to its simplicity and versatility.
안 is placed directly before the verb or adjective that you wish to negate. This structure is applicable to almost all verbs and adjectives.
Simple Verbs/Adjectives: For most verbs and adjectives, simply place 안 immediately before the word.
'하다' Verbs (Compound Verbs): For verbs formed with a noun + 하다 (e.g., 공부하다, 운동하다, 요리하다), 안 is inserted between the noun and 하다.
This negation typically expresses a simple factual denial or a lack of intention.
The particle 안 itself does not conjugate. Instead, it precedes the verb or adjective, which then conjugates according to the tense, politeness level, and mood of the sentence.
General Rule: 안 + [Verb/Adjective Stem] + [Ending]
'하다' Verb Rule: [Noun] + 안 + 하다 + [Ending]
